Many players considering joining an online Dungeons & Dragons game wonder first, “What do I need in order to play?”
Our adventures use the Dungeons & Dragons 5th edition ruleset. New players, or experienced players coming back to D&D, can download a free copy of the Basic Rules to get started, or purchase the 5th edition Dungeons & Dragons Player’s Handbook. It’s not mandatory, but it’s certainly helpful!
Most importantly, you’ll need a quiet place with a computer that has a microphone, headphones, and internet access.
- You should have access to a quiet area in your home or wherever you play.
- While Discord has a “push to talk” setting which will mute you when you’re not actively speaking, try to prepare those around and request a quiet space, ideally without interruption, during your D&D session.
- You’ll need a computer or laptop with either Chrome or Firefox browsers (preferred by Roll20) installed.
- Set up or have at least a free account on Roll20.net. You won’t need to have physical dice, as you can roll 3D dice right on screen!
- Create an account on Discord free, if you don’t already have one, for audio during games.
- You’ll need a microphone (built-in or stand-alone) and headphones (you can use headphones with a built-in microphone, too) to get the most out of the game.
