Waterdeep: Dungeon of the Mad Mage – a Dungeon Crawl

Explore the mega-dungeon of Undermountain

Dive into the dungeon of the Mad Mage, shunned by all but the most daring adventurers. Known as Undermountain, this dungeon is the domain of the mad wizard Halaster Blackcloak. Long has the Mad Mage dwelt in these forlorn depths, seeding his lair with monsters, traps, and mysteries.

There are 23 floors to explore, with everything from cities and dwarven temples to swamps and rivers flowing through Undermountain.

Speaking of monsters, the Dungeon of the Mad Mage should allow you to tick off your list of all the classic monsters. There are 340 monsters here.

This is one of the only official adventures which will take your character to Level 20!

This adventure may pick up where Waterdeep: Dragon Heist leaves off, though it is quite different, and moves characters from city exploration to the subterranean depths. Here, characters will be exploring the twenty-three levels of Undermountain, along with the quirky ‘refuge’ of Skullport – if they can find it.

I’ve been really enjoying this so far – suffice it to say it’s been a long campaign just because of the sheer depth to it. But Allison has put a ton of work into it, including dynamic lighting in her maps and different ways to make Roll20 function better for us as players. I’ve been with most of the same people the entire time and we’ve been having a blast, trying to stay alive with all these crazy monsters roaming the dungeon. Looking forward to getting out the other side!

This is a Serious Dungeon Crawl, not for the shy combatant. I know because I’m constantly trying to talk my way out of Fights!

We have been playing this campaign for almost two full years (May we will have our 2 year anniversary). Allison has given the dungeon a lot of time, consideration, blood sweat and tears. She is an expert with Roll 20 and works on giving us the best experience that she can. She is open to changes and character growth and very approachable and welcoming. There are four of us in this adventure that have been together almost the entire time and two newer players/new friends that have joined us. We have also had several that have come and gone throughout the 22 Months that we have been playing, sometimes life happens and schedules change, We hope to have them all back with us in the future as well as welcome any new players who want to join us on this wild ride!

Allison has a lot of roles to fill and takes immense pleasure in making our trek through the mad mage dangerous and harrowing, she provides clues, obstacles and all the enemies you could ask for. Ever wanted to fight all the classic D&D Monsters in one Campaign setting while trying to reach your way through a dungeon to fight an Evil Wizard hellbent on driving you insane? this is the game for you! We are waiting come and join us!

Mad Mage is great, especially the way that Ajax DM runs it. Every new level is a delicate political and/or power balance between the inhabitants there so you feel part of a living world, even though it’s a dungeon crawl. I really enjoyed it.
