In an audacious bid for power, the Cult of the Dragon, along with its dragon allies and the Red Wizards of Thay, seek to bring Tiamat from her prison in the Nine Hells to Faerûn. To this end, they are sweeping from town to town, laying waste to all those who oppose them and gathering a hoard of riches for their dread queen. The threat of annihilation has become so dire that groups as disparate as the Harpers and Zhentarim are banding together in the fight against the cult. Never before has the need for heroes been so desperate.

A fun sampler platter of the Forgotten Realms, this an adventure that takes you from a relative nobody to major player — and continues into Rise of Tiamat. AjaxDM has substantial strengths in setting scenes and creating atmosphere, while also making sure that your characters’ actions (or lack of action) has consequence in how things play out.
I joined this campaign late, so I only caught the end of HotDQ. I took over an existing PC right in the middle of a massive three-way (or possible four-way) combat. AjaxDM did an amazing job keeping everything on the rails … and throughout as we went on to do the whole of Rise of Tiamat. She was happy to let me develop my PC’s character and role play him. She gave us a great mix of roleplay, combat and puzzles. Kudos.
